Regulate to Create: Why You Can't Access Your Heart's Desires When You're Dysregulated

Here’s what I’ve been noticing on my own journey and with so many people—and maybe this resonates with you too: when your nervous system is dysregulated, feeling like a creator in your life is nearly impossible.
Neuroscience supports this: when your nervous system is stuck in fight/flight/freeze, you’re operating from your survival brain. (And so many people are living in this state consistently.) In this state, you literally cannot access the higher aspects of your mind—intuition, clarity, creativity, your heart’s wisdom.
The Science of Coherence:Research on brain-heart coherence shows that when your heart and brain are in sync, when you’re in a state of love rather than fear, your entire system shifts. You think clearer. You make better decisions. You access possibilities you couldn’t see before...because you are actually present.
But when you’re running on fear, guilt, or resentment—the opposite of love—life-force energy doesn’t flow, you become fatigued, and you feel stuck. Your subconscious mind and survival strategies are running the show, generating more experiences that you don’t want.
As Norman Vincent Peale wrote, “it is fear, resentment, the projection of parental faults upon people when they are children, inner conflicts and obsessions that throw off balance the finely equated nature, thus causing undue expenditure of natural force.”
Essentially, fear and anger throw your whole system off.
The Energy of Creation
This shows up energetically, too. Your root chakra—your foundation, your sense of safety—needs to be balanced before your sacral chakra (your creative center) can activate. When you’re stuck in survival mode, your energy can’t rise. Your creative power often stays dormant.
When you regulate your nervous system, when you reconnect to Divine energy (not religion—this connection is within you), your vital life force starts flowing again. The energy knots, blockages, and imbalances can begin to clear, and energy starts moving into your heart. When energy moves into your heart, the heart begins to send communication to the brain in a more ordered and stronger pattern, and the brain begins to access parts of itself, brain-wave states, etc., that it wouldn’t have access to when your heart energy is blocked.
You can access your heart’s true desires—not what your ego thinks you should want, but what your heart is actually calling you toward. That’s when you tap into something beyond your own limited mind. When you access the desires of the heart, you are actually more easily supported in them coming to fruition, because you’re now backed up by the energy of the DIVINE.
Depletion vs. Connection
Peale also wrote: “contact with God establishes within us a flow of the same type of energy that recreates the world and that renews spring time every year…when contact with the Divine energy is broken, the personality gradually becomes depleted in body, mind and spirit.”
As a Metaphysician, I see this all of the time—people who are depleted because they’ve lost that connection. And once we restore it—through regulating the nervous system, removing what is in the way, and reconnecting to the Divine—everything can begin to shift.
The Integrated Approach
The work we do together honors the whole self—body, mind, and spirit working together as one unit. They are interconnected:
Regulating your nervous system so you feel safe, present, and grounded enough to respond (science)
Clearing energy blockages and rebalancing your system (energy work/Reiki)
Reconnecting you to Divine energy—that inner wisdom that’s always there
Helping you discern your heart’s true desires vs. ego desires
Supporting you in becoming a conscious co-creator of your life through your beliefs, words, and actions
You have to regulate to create. That’s the foundation.
When you’re regulated, grounded, and connected—that’s when you can stop repeating unconscious patterns. That’s when you become available to what your heart truly desires. That’s when you step into co-creation with the Divine instead of reacting from survival.
